Here are the 3 phases that start this “whispering”, using my book example:
1. The Whisper: A suggestion or new awareness. Easy to miss and dismiss.
About a year ago, my husband read “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success” and shared with me some super cool things he learned from it. We learn and share personal development daily, so I wasn’t too concerned with remembering the exact book title or source of the great stuff he was learning. I didn’t retain or recall this book discussion at all by the way, until well into Phase 2!
2. The Slap Upside The Head: More persistent, unpredictable clues. Obvious mention from a variety of sources. Cannot be ignored!
Two months ago, this “Mindset” book was everywhere in my life:
I attended an annual event for company leaders, where (in my opinion), the best presentation or speech was by my own Upline and Mentor. Her topic? Mindset. It’s not unusual for the number one earner in the country to educate on the power of mindset, but this was outstanding. I took copious notes. When I shared this learning with my husband he reminded me that he’d recommended the same book to me a year ago!
Me: Oh. You did?
Me: Really? Oh wait…(thinking). Oh yeah! That was the same book. Huh.
Him: So NOW you’ll read it?
Me: Eventually. I have 2 other books on the go right now. Love you though!
For the next few weeks this freakin’ book was all up in my face, being mentioned by top leaders everywhere:
- Event speakers
- Guest on one of my fave podcasts
- A “random” TED Talk
- Airplane conversations of strangers
And even those who didn’t cite this book, were talking about the power of mindset. Which I already believe is crucial to personal development and success. So…I’d say that’s a pretty swift smack upside the head, no? Would you listen at that point? I did.
3. The Brick Wall: If you’ve managed to ignore the first 2 phases that are trying desperately to tell you something, you could be headed for a crisis.
Whether you believe this or not, it does happen all the time. This works in the positive too! When I’m paying attention, I have great unplanned conversations that build my business and help others. I meet the most engaging people! I get out of my comfort zone using those whispers as an indication to get moving. Now, I believe these whispers come directly from the Holy Spirit. You may not believe that, but I’ll bet you have your own examples of how this intuition is playing a part in your business!
Now…owning a book won’t help anybody, so I’m cracking the spine on this new shiny book TODAY. I’ll share what I learn with you soon.
